LARCAN designed a bespoke learn to swim program tailored to community needs, including comprehensive staff training. Their community and stakeholder engagement used IAP2 methodologies to align the program with user preferences. The program design supports core operational goals while ensuring high-quality swim education integrated with overall centre management.
Description of Services:
- Researched, developed, and implemented a bespoke Learn to Swim program tailored to Council and local community needs.
- Designed a base-level program structure scalable with enrolment growth, including 11 child levels and 6+ adolescent/adult levels.
- Developed core competencies, assessment criteria, and easy-to-follow lesson plans for each swim level.
- Incorporated water safety specifications to ensure the program qualified as GST-free.
- Created assessment guidelines to support consistent and accurate progression through swim levels.
- Embedded local cultural relevance through thoughtful naming conventions informed by Indigenous history (e.g. ‘Catfish’ in the Bayside Council area).
- Delivered 10 hours of program-specific staff training to support confident and consistent delivery.
- Advised on pool layouts, equipment procurement, and operational budgets to support program rollout.
- Developed phone scripts to assist customer service staff with enquiries and transitioning enrolments.
- Produced graphically designed marketing materials aligned with Council branding for use across website, social media, and in-centre promotions.
